Age of the Earth Information
The age of the Earth became controversial a few years ago. It is accepted by the scientific community that the Earth was formed between 4.5 and 5 billion years ago. These figures were obtained
through many measurements and with different methods and tools.
Recently, however, these measurements have been questioned
by some groups of Christians.
These groups calculate the age of the Earth at between 6,000 and 10,000 years, the so-called Young Earth. Such numbers fit properly with some Bible verses,
mainly in the Book of Genesis, regarding the creation. To find evidence
of such numbers has become important because they could confirm
the biblical text.
Of course, that information has great implications in many areas. Examples: The evolution of man over hundreds of thousands of years is automatically denied. An ape as ancestor became impossible. Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is wrong. A great deal of scientific knowledge about evolution is wrong and cannot be thaught in the schools. Students must learn the creation as described in the Bible.
These groups described themselves as Creation Scientists who defend Creation Science. The Young Earth is a reference to differentiate these
groups from others—also creationists—who accept the scientific
calculation that the Earth is over 4 billion years old, the so-called
Old Earth.
