The center of the debate is between the creationists, mainly of the Creation Science school, and the followers of the Theory of Evolution.
Moral Objectives
The fight between the followers of the Creation Science and the followers of the Theory of Evolution has profound and diversified moral objectives. It is not, as many think, a mere academic competition or a measure of strength or knowledge. Neither is it an attempt to substitute science with religion.
The followers of the Creation Science believe that almost two hundred years of propagation of the theories of evolution in schools, research centers, universities, and among the general public has been harmful to humanity because these theories have had a morally and socially destructive content.
The reader could object that the theories of evolution, being scientific, they are devoid of moral content. However, the moral content of these theories is implicit: if everything, including human beings, is the work of cosmic and environmental accidents, then there is no reason for the individual to think of social and personal responsibility; there is no reason to think of others; there is no reason to build or search for peace; there is no reason to think about collective progress and development. The values implied in the evolutionary theory were imbedded in the social fabric and molded people to overemphasize the individualism and to overestimate the woth of material goods, with negative consequences for humanity.
The followers of the Theory of Intelligent Design believe that it is necessary to change this center of values.
