Creation vs. Evolution Links
Theistic Evolution
The creation/evolution debate is bipolarized. On one side, fundamentalist creationists (in general the evangelicals) defend and preach creation such as
is described in the beginning of Bible, more accurately in the beginning of the Book of Genesis. God created
everything in six days. On the other side are the intransigent
defenders of naturalistic processes: life is the consequence
of a process of changes in the environment that took place over
billions of years.
Today we witness a bitter
dispute between the two groups. The first group strives
to prove that the description in Genesis expresses what, in fact,
happened, and for this reason this work is known as Creation Science.
The second group presents a number of theories that explain different
phenomena in the process (Examples: the Big Bang Theory, the Theory
of Evolution as described by Charles Darwin). Many times, this dispute
takes an aggressive and disrespectful form.
Between these two extremes are numerous
groups with different positions. For example, the
Roman Catholic Church upholds its faith in God (the God
of Abraham) and yet concedes to the Theory of Evolution. Among
the evangelicals there are groups who have a liberal interpretation
of Genesis and other biblical passages and quotes. There are also groups
who defend naturalism, albeit in a less rigid manner.
There is, however, a distinctive group
between these two extremes: one that allows for
Theistic Evolution, which is to say, an evolution directed by
the God of the Bible. This group strives to prove
the existence of God and His hand in the evolutionary process.
It is necessary to point out that other
thinkers have presented alternatives to the bipolarization similar
to that of Theistic Evolution. Example: The process
is the product of a design formulated and directed by a superior
intelligence that may be God, a god, goddess, gods, or identified
only as a superior intelligence. In this case, for this
particular group of thinkers, research ought to be directed towards
proving the existence of the design and of this superior intelligence.
We should not be surprised to find in this group—known as
the Intelligent Design supporters—thinkers, researchers,
and followers who intransigently maintain that the Intelligent
Design is the work of God.
You can easily see that the core of thinking in some groups is diverse and, sometimes, is even
difficult to understand. For this reason, a measure of
understanding will be a helpful tool if you find ambiguities in

3. Some questions for theistic evolutionists
The following questions may help those who adhere to some form of theistic evolution (God used evolution to create everything) or progressive creation (God intervened at various points in
the process of evolution) to realize that their position violates
clear concepts revealed in the Bible.
